The Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) is an agency of the South African Department of Trade and Industry (the dti). Seda’s mission is to develop, support and promote small enterprises throughout the country, ensuring their growth and sustainability in co–ordination and partnership with various role players, including global partners, who make international best practices available to local entrepreneurs.
The Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) aimed to increase awareness of and stimulate entrepreneurship in South Africa. A national business plan competition was proposed as a solution to increase awareness of entrepreneurship. One of the key challenges of running a national business plan competition is the logistics of accepting and adjudicating business plans from geographically dispersed locations.
Working with the South African Institute for Entrepreneurship (SAIE), an online solution was proposed, which has the benefit of national reach with centralised management. Kishan Consulting was responsible for strategizing, designing and developing the complete online technical infrastructure to support the competition.
The online platform was central to the success of the project and therefore Kishan Consulting’s role was mission critical. Performance, security and system integrity were the main challenges, which we resolved, regarding the online platform.
The site experienced roughly 90 000 visits and over 350 000 page views in a 7 month period. Kishan Consulting managed and maintained the web application and hardware infrastructure throughout the duration of the project.
